Memories

And just like that, the year has finished.

A year like no other, but we adapted and did the best we could in the most unprecedented times. I couldn’t have done it without the amazing team of people I have around me: a fantastic and highly supportive Academy trust and a big thank you goes especially to Mr Bianchi, Regional Executive Director from TKAT, who has supported us so closely over the year. A governing body who have reassured, challenged and listened, offering advice and support at every opportunity. Wonderful parents who have worked with us to do the best for their children and been so generous with their kind comments. A staff team like no other – the adults at OVPA go out of their way to help the children and give them the best opportunities, and to keep them safe and happy. Through these very uncertain times, they have just been incredible and I am exceptionally grateful to have them all by my side. Thank you to each and every one of them for making this tough year, go so smoothly. I could not have asked for any more from them and as I told everyone in my final assembly yesterday; I really am the luckiest Headteacher in the world.

As we know, all good things have to come to an end as we said a sad goodbye to Miss Bedford, Miss Mould, Mrs Roberts and Fran, our attendance key worker. All who have been brilliant and we will miss greatly. Pictured below are our lovely leavers with their bouquets of flowers (Fran escaped before a photo). We also wished them all a fond farewell with this little memento video:

We also said goodbye to some of our pupils. A few children are moving on to new schools and we wished them well. For our Year 6 pupils, it was their final day at primary school. We held an afternoon assembly that was all about Year 6 and took a trip down memory lane to share their time at OVPA right from the beginning to the end. It was rather emotional but so lovely to see how they had grown and developed. We treated them to a surprise ice cream van delivery, gave them special leavers’ T-shirts and enjoyed their company (and karaoke singing!) in their final hours at school. With the parents’ permission, we held on to them a little after all the other pupils had gone home so we could give them the best send off. All the children were clapped by the staff as they headed out of OVPA, for the last time, through an archway of blue and white balloons. Parents congregated outside to greet them and it was a very special moment. We wish all our Year 6 pupils the very best as they head off to secondary school. We know they will continue to make us proud and this was their farewell video from all the staff:

We wish all our families a restful summer holiday. We have a final newsletter coming out next week, which include the new term dates and planned inset days.

Welcome videos from the teaching and support staff will be available in the website also next week, to share with your child and help them prepare for next year. At the start of September, we will also send an update video to welcome you back. Please make sure you are on Class Dojo as that is where all of our information is posted in relation to the classes. Our new ‘creatures from the sea’ classes will be set up with the relevant children connected so you can share who will be in your child’s class, with them.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 8 September at your designated entry gate. Until then, stay safe and have a wonderful break. Thank you for all your continued support and thank you to your amazing children for all the memories.
