How do you measure a year?

Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes. How do you measure a year?
In daylights, in sunsets
In midnights, in cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife
In five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, a year in the life?
Measure in love……

Happy New Year! It has been so lovely to see everyone back after the Christmas break.

This week has been all about a new year, a new decade and a fresh start. We have shared our hopes and dreams; our targets and challenges; our resolutions and promises to improve. We have talked about starts of journeys and staying on track. We have also looked at strategies to hold us to account and help us stay focused. I have shared with the children my own personal challenge this year, which is running Brighton marathon in April. I know in telling the children, I really do need to keep on track with my training because they will be checking up on me!

This term, Miss Bedford, our super Year 5 Teacher and Reading Lead, is reigniting our passion for reading and sharing books. At the end of every day, children are enjoying a story read to them by an adult – giving them the opportunity to get lost in another world. Classes are swapping during the week to do some mixed-age sharing and reading of books. If you want to know what the staff are currently reading, have a look on the classroom doors when you’re next in school. The library is in the process of being revamped and we have some special story telling sessions from outside visitors. This starts tomorrow with an opportunity for any pre-school children to come in to school with heir adult, and hear a story. All our little visitors will receive a free book, so please come and join us in the cafe.

The new year brings a slight change to our celebration assembly which, with everything golden – tickets, oscars, brooms- we have renamed, ‘Golden Assembly’. We have moved this assembly to 9am, starting this week, so we can use our Friday afternoons to start getting creative! We look forward to celebrating our fabulous pupil achievements this Friday and as always love to have you join us.

Don’t forget that we have Parent Consultations this Tuesday and Thursday where we plan to share your child’s academic achievement. Please sign up for an appointment via the sign-up sheet on classroom doors. We look forward to seeing you then!
