This year the year 6 children were given the opportunity to take part in an after school club project with the Jerwood Gallery (now Hastings Contemporary) to achieve a Bronze Arts Award. They are the youngest they can be to be entered for the award and the moderation is extremely tough. This is a Level 1 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework, which means it’s the equivalent of a GCSE grade. Six of our pupils signed up and attended the club along with several children from another local school.
The pupils made fantastic progress over the 20 weeks and have all achieved a Bronze Arts Award. This represents a huge achievement for the pupils who will be able to refer to this learning as they transition to secondary school. It’s even something that they could refer to in their CVs or applications to University in years to come.
Amalia, Scarlet, Maria, Esther, Elizabeth and Zoey have been the heart of this programme. Their passion, creativity and resilience have been outstanding and they will always have a creative home at the gallery. Well done to the girls and thank you to Miss Shepherd for enabling them to have the opportunity of producing such superb artwork.
